 ACOPOSmicro provides drive modules for up to 2 axes for low-power applications. The ACOPOSmicro is designed to control both stepper motors and servo motors.

Ever-changing fields of application and the necessity to integrate different types of drives in one machine often create enormous challenges for application developers. Creating projects with B&R Automation Studio makes it possible to handle a wide range of drive concepts using the same tools. This means that flexible drive architectures can be implemented by either combining these concepts together or maintaining their independence from one another.
It is possible to plan for different machine variants as early as the project development phase and to account for separate configurations that use various drive types. This makes it easy to switch from a stepper motor to a power inverter variant (and vice versa) without problems. As a result, machine manufacturers are able to enjoy unprecedented flexibility.

Integrated I/O
In addition to trigger inputs, this system also includes a 24 VDC output. It can be used, for example, to control external brakes in addition to being available for other tasks. If required, additional functionality can be added via optional modules without taking up extra space.
This makes it possible to meet even extraordinary customer-specific requirements. The optional support of many different encoder systems illustrates this product line's high degree of flexibility.

Smallest dimensions
The two-channel variant of this system clearly highlights this module's extremely compact design. The ACOPOSmicro requires an area of less than 50 cm² per axis.
This not only saves space in the control cabinet for applications with multiple axes, but also provides advantages in wiring since the bus and supply voltage connection is only required for every second motor.
Such high power density in such a small space is extremely rare.

Variable rated voltage ranges
To achieve higher torque values at high speeds, the first voltage variant was designed for a nominal voltage of 80 VDC. The ability to withstand overvoltage up to 95 VDC also allows for increases in the DC bus voltage such as those that occur during braking procedures. But the drive can also be used for almost any application in the extra-low voltage range. This means that the ACOPOSmicro product family can be operated up to a voltage of 18 VDC.

For servo and stepper motors
Modules from the ACOPOSmicro product family are used to control up to two motors. Stepper motors from a wide range of 24 to 64 VDC ±25% nominal voltage and up to 10 A (15 A peak) motor current can be connected. For servo motors, continuous current of 8 A and peak current of 15 A are permitted.
The modules are protected against overcurrent, overtemperature and other prohibited operating conditions. Appropriate warnings and error messages are output via the fieldbus.

Big impact, small footprint
With the ACOPOS P3, B&R is setting new standards for motion control. This 3-axis servo drive offers a power density of 4 amps per liter, making it one of the most efficient servo drives with integrated safety functions on the market. It also offers unrivaled dynamics and precision, with a sampling time of just 50 µs for the entire controller cascade.
More than ever before, machine and system manufacturers are being confronted with demands for increased productivity and availability. At the same time, pressure is constantly building to reduce the manufacturing costs for production machines. The new servo drive generation from B&R was designed to meet these challenges.

Modular cooling concept for ACOPOS P3
 The ACOPOS P3 servo drive is now also available with feed-through heat sink or cold plate cooling. This reduces the use of fans and air conditioners in the control cabinet or, ideally, eliminates them altogether. Operation and maintenance costs are reduced.
System designers can now choose between the following cooling variants for the ACOPOS P3:

Wall mounting
With conventional wall mounting, heat dissipates via the air inside the control cabinet. This solution is optimal for a small number of axes with low power.

Feed-through mounting
With a large number of axes in all power ranges, feed-through mounting is more suitable. An IP65-rated feed-through heat sink dissipates heat directly to the ambient air outside the control cabinet, so there is no need for costly cooling in the cabinet itself.

Cold plate mounting
This method utilizes a water-cooled cold plate. Virtually all heat loss from the devices is transferred to the coolant. This type of cooling is suitable for a large number of axes in all power ranges. It requires the machine to have its own cooling circuit.

69% smaller footprint with highest power density
 The ACOPOS P3 is available as a 1-, 2- or 3-axis system. It covers a power range from 0.6 to 18 kW or 1.6 to 44 amperes. The housing for the 3-axis system is as compact as a conventional 1-axis drive. Space consumption in the control cabinet is reduced by 69%. In addition, an integrated digital multi-encoder interface is available to the user for each axis.

Virtual sensor technology in a new dimension
With a short cycle time of 50 µs for current, speed and position control, the ACOPOS P3 opens up new opportunities for advanced motion control. For highly dynamic and precise processes like those in the printing and packaging industries, extremely fast movements must be controlled with absolute precision. With the short cycle times of the ACOPOS P3 and the bandwidth and precision of the POWERLINK real-time Ethernet network, this is no problem.

Increased productivity
The trend towards higher productivity with a smaller footprint and reduced energy consumption is forcing machine manufacturers to adopt lightweight designs. The moving masses or mass moments of inertia are being reduced. This decreases stiffness while increasing elasticity. Virtual sensing makes it possible to control these elastic systems while retaining a high level of quality without having to use additional position sensors at the process intervention point.

Encoderless control
In addition, virtual position encoders can be used in the motor. The drive system does not require a motor position encoder, cables or an evaluation unit in the servo drive. This reduces the number of components and increases the availability of the drive unit.

Motor-integrated drive system
The ACOPOSmulti has always been an extremely modular drive system, and it was the next logical step to merge inverters with the motor to create 8DI ACOPOSmotor modules that can deliver power directly where it is needed. This allows configurable modules to become easily connected mechatronic devices. It also makes it possible to reduce delivery times, free up valuable floor space and simplify commissioning.

Compact and safe
ACOPOSmotor modules combine the following important components in a compact unit:

  • The servo drive including optional safety technology
  • The servo motor as a power converter
  • The built-in position sensor
  • The choice of an optional gearbox
The ACOPOSmotor module delivers maximum performance by using the latest technology for power devices with minimal power loss as well as a motor series that is optimized for this application.
With three different sizes, a torque range of 1.2 to 10 Nm and a power range of 550 W to 2.3 kW, ACOPOSmotor modules cover the entire spectrum. For applications that demand more power, an optional fan component can be added at any time to boost performance considerably.

Decentralized and flexible
In terms of topology, the ACOPOSmotor module can be employed in a simple line or tree structure. In a line structure, the node number is assigned automatically, However, this can be done without opening the housing if an address setting is required.
The connection to the drive group is made using a hybrid connector. It contains all power and signal lines relevant to the operation of the ACOPOSmotor module as well as the POWERLINK network.
Highly effective IP65 protection allows direct mounting of ACOPOSmotor modules on the machine. The control cabinet then only has to contain the power supply, high-powered inverter modules and other necessary electromechanical components. This makes it much easier to implement modular machine architectures and optional machine functions since they can be easily connected – with the requisite dimensioning of the power supply – to the machine's main line using hybrid cables.
Also ideal for modular machine engineering is the possibility to connect X67 modules directly to ACOPOSmotor modules. This paves the way for implementing machine modules as self-sufficient finished and testable production units.

Integrated safety
In addition to the proven wired safety functions STO (Safe Torque Off) and SS1 (Safe Operational Stop 1), a network-based ACOPOSmotor module variant with openSAFETY is also available as an option. This allows users to access the following functions that have already been certified for ACOPOSmulti: STO, SOS, SS1, SS2, SLS, SMS, SLI and SDI. The interesting thing about this is that safety functions can be individually selected as needed. In contrast, wired variants only allow both STO and SS1 safety functions to be selected.

Homogeneous and compatible
The ACOPOSmotor module offers the well-known functionality of the ACOPOSmulti drive family and can therefore be integrated homogeneously into a drive solution.
